Theme - Literacies and disinformation: challenges to democracy

November 19th, 20th and 21st, 2024 (Pontifical Catholic University of Minas Gerais – PUC Minas) (Campus Coração Eucarístico, Belo Horizonte)

Com grande satisfação, anunciamos que o XII Simpósio Internacional de Gêneros Textuais/Discursivos (SIGET) será realizado nos dias November 19th, 20th and 21st, 2024, na Pontifícia Universidade Católica de Minas Gerais (PUC Minas), Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brasil, em uma parceria que reúne outras 8  IES mineiras na organização local: UFLA, UFMG, UFJF, UFOP, UFSJ,  UFTM, UFV e UFU.

As per the tradition, which began on 2003, at the University of Londrina, where the I SIGET took place – then coordinated by professors Vera Lúcia Lopes Cristovão and Elvira Lopes Nascimento – there is always the election of a theme to guide the discussions in the event.

In this XII edition, the theme defined for our reflections is Literacies and disinformation: challenges to democracy. The choice of tis theme – a timely and relevant one – reflects the commitment of the Organizing Commission and of the National and International Scientific Committee of XII SIGET with the debate on theoretical, methodological and pedagogic aspects that may work in facing disinformation and favor democratic social and discursive practices. This debate certainly implies the relation between textual/discursive genres, social practices, digital technologies and means of spreading knowledge. In connection with the actions of the Work Group (GT) on Textual/Discursive Genres of the National Association of Post-Graduation in Language, Literature and Linguistics (ANPOLL), from 2003 to the current moment, the SIGET has proven to be a biannual event with a national and international projection, representing an agenda of discussions and debates awaited by a wide swath of the academic community in the field of Language, Literature and Linguistics that broaches the theme, due to its interdisciplinary and intercultural nature.
